Pasanda

Derived from a court dish of the Moghul emperors the pasanda is traditionally made with thinly sliced and marinated lamb fillets.

It is sometimes called lamb badam pasanda because the dish contains ground almonds, the "badam" of the title.

The restaurant pasanda is usually quite mild and contains ground almonds, cardamon pods, puréed tomatoes and cream.

Kebab from your Takeaway

Kebab is a wide variety of meat dishes originating in Persia, and a common takeaway food. In English, kebab with no qualification generally refers more specifically to shish kebab served on the skewer or döner kebab served wrapped in bread with a salad and a dressing.

In Persia, however, kebab includes grilled, roasted, and stewed dishes of large or small cuts of meat, or even ground meat; it may be served on plates, in sandwiches, or in bowls. The traditional meat for kebab is lamb. Like other ethnic foods brought by travellers, the kebab has become part of everyday cuisine in UK takeaways.

History of pizza

The Ancient Greeks covered their bread with oils, herbs and cheese. The Romans developed placenta, a sheet of flour topped with cheese and honey and flavored with bay leaves. Modern pizza originated in Italy as the Neapolitan pie with tomato. In 1889 cheese was added.

King Ferdinand I (1751–1825) is said to have disguised himself as a commoner and, in clandestine fashion, visited a poor neighborhood in Naples.

In 1889, during a visit in Naples, Queen Margherita of Savoy was served a pizza resembling the colors of the Italian flag, red (tomato), white (mozzarella) and green (basil). This kind of pizza has been named after the Queen as Pizza Margherita.

Hawaiian pizza

Hawaiian pizza is a pizza that usually consists of a cheese and tomato base with pieces of ham or sausage and pineapple. Some versions include bacon, shrimp, green pepper, mushrooms, onions and/or jalapenos, but the version with ham and pineapple only is the most common. It is the most popular pizza in Australia, accounting for 15% of pizza sales. It is a very popular order from your local takeaway.

Despite its name, Hawaiian pizza is not a Hawaiian invention. In Italy, "Hawaiian" pizza is considered to be a German invention (or a German modification of Italian cuisine), similar to the Toast Hawaii.

Fish and chips

Fish and chips is a popular takeaway food that originated in the United Kingdom in 1858. It consists of deep-fried fish (traditionally cod, but sometimes haddock or plaice) in batter or sometimes breadcrumbs with deep-fried chipped (slab-cut) potatoes.

Popular tradition associates the dish with the United Kingdom to the point of becoming a cliché. The dish remains very popular in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

It's also been popular in the Faroe Islands since the time it was introduced during the British occupation of the Faroe Islands in the Second World War.
